On 15 July 2009, Western Union indicated that it has introduced new tariffs on money transfer within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), including Azerbaijan, from 15 July 2009. The company further added that the new tariff fully takes into account current economic conditions and the needs of the Western Union customers. Moreover, for Western Union's clients in Russia there would be moderation in the most popular ranges of transferred sums due to the new tariffs.
Regional vice-president of Eastern Europe and the CIS, Western Union, Jonathan Knaue said “Over the last few months we observed gradual reduction of average transaction sum transferred to CIS countries that was conditioned with ongoing worldwide decline in economy. It is also confirmed with statistics of the Central Bank of Russia which registered decrease of average transaction sum from Russia to the CIS states to US$418 in the first quarter of 2009, which is less US$183 year-on-year. In this connection we decided to revise our tariffs and are glad now to offer new tariffs which meet current needs.”
