
On 03 September 2008, Globe Telecom Inc., (Globe) the second largest wireless carrier in the Philippines has tied up with Western Union, a global money transfer company to enable its users with the facility to send and receive money from overseas via their mobile phones. Initially, the companies mentioned that the services would be available in two cities, namely Hawaii, USA and Dubai, UAE and would later be extended to the mobile phone subscribers of Globe through its Gcash service. In this partnership, Western Union would be responsible for accepting remittance, while Globe will serve as the distribution channel using SMS.
