Digicel teams up with Western Union to expand Diaspora programme in the US

On 13 September 2008, Digicel, a telecommunication provider in the Caribbean has teamed up with Western Union, a global money transfer company, to further expand Digicel's Diaspora programme in the US. The Western Union network spread across about 45,000 locations in the US would help consumers to purchase and pay instant phone credit and remit money to approximately 5 million members in the Caribbean and Central American diaspora communities. The relationship would help in increasing Digicel's presence in the US, and also its penetration in key markets such as the Caribbean, Central America and major Diaspora communities.

Digicel Group Commercial Director, Brian Finn said “Digicel has connected millions of friends and family throughout the world. By expanding our Diaspora offerings, we will have even greater impact on the communities we serve. The Diaspora is the lifeline of many Caribbean and Central American countries, first transferring money, then food, and now phone time credit to friends and family back home.”
